I was overcome with delight this week when I received a parcel from a recently found fellow crafter who I was put in touch with through a lovely friend in India. Such is the power of the internet!! Here is a rare picture of me opening my box of treats. Thankyou Tina....

free as a bird
The other day I was fiddling about with silk paints and did a few miniatures based on past images imprinted on my mind, like the moon one evening when we lived in Penicuik(outside Edinburgh). The bird and the pathway are from bits of an old scarf belonging to my mother.

.......an artist - and generally all persons - must think that whatever happens to him or her is a resource. All things have been given to us for a purpose, and an artist must feel this more intensely. All that happens to us, including our humiliations, our misfortunes, our embarrassments, all is given to us as raw material,as clay, so that we may shape our art.

Sun is shining, snowflakes are trying to fall and my lovey blue Saab is waiting patiently to be towed away hopefully to be made well again as opposed to sitting forlornly on the drive. Here is a picture, taken last year ,of Dotty and Finn toasting teacakes after a handwriting lesson.Dotty is as tall as me now!! Martha and I munched our way through a packet of marshmallows yesterday - toasted on the fire of course!

Sometimes it's like we see through a glass dimly. Today is one of those days - foggy like a november day, followed by persistent rain. Sometimes I just can't get motivated and want to curl up safely in my bed. I'm sure I'm not alone in having these feelings..Using my new media reader here are a few pics that I transferred last night. Only 2 days to opening my mystery card addressed to Sally Todd... fairly sure it's my Kirby's sense of humour!

When the sun shines for a whole day after the drab grey ones , it always reminds me of my dear friend June, who died a few years ago.She was an inspirational person, mother and artist and I will always miss her. Fortunately I have this painting to look at every time I wake up as it hangs on our bedroom wall. Commissioned by my husband and painted by June it always makes me SMILE.....
I've been experimenting with different size cushions for cots and cars and these are some of the results. I've made sleeping cat in lots of different colours - my favourite is one made out of a leopard effect old wool jumper. More animal cushies on the way.
My daughter gave me a birthday-cum-mother's day card yesterday which has spurred me to make a few special hearts for mum's.....

It was worth braving the freezing wind yesterday to rescue these bits and bobs from a pile of junk on the floor at Derby cattle market. Treasures found were: a red patterned silk scarf, a delicate white silk scarf with blue and grey flower motifs, a 1950's cadbury's tin decorated with travel motifs, a linen placemat with moth motif and a Suzy Smith leopard skin and beaded clutch bag. The silk scarves will be incorporated into future designs, but not until I have completed a cushion using an indian silk for Simone........

Home is where the heart is.I know that is a tright ,wellworn saying, but it still rings true for me. I have been making lavender filled hearts for about 3 years now and experiment with all kinds of up-cycled natural fabrics, including linen, silk, knitwear and cotton.Much of the fabric I use is vintage and from France. They come in 5 different sizes ranging from minis to xx large and are filled with Yorkshire lavender(my place of birth)- each one is unique..............
